Malibu Fire-Rebuilds in the midst of Covid-19

These are strange times we are living in. In the past couple years wildfires have raged throughout California, and now that we are in the middle of a growing global pandemic these are uncertain times for the Californians in the process of rebuilding their homes.

As of March 29th, the president has extended the nationwide social distancing guidelines to at least April 30th. According to the City of Malibu, essential city staff are working remotely with some services available. As part of the City’s emergency protective measures, all non-essential city services, programs and events are suspended or cancelled, and City Hall is closed to the public. The City Council and staff continue to work and are available to assist the community. For email and phone extensions to contact City departments, go to www.malibucity.org/coronavirus.

So what can we do? And how can builders and homeowners continue to push their plans through the City of Malibu? Here is what we know.

City Hall, the Senior Center, and all City parks, including restroom facilities, are closed. Essential City staff are working remotely. Residents wishing to contact City staff or planner may do so by calling departmental extensions or emails:

— Planning – 310-456-2489, ext. 485 or email MPlanning@malibucity.org

— Building Safety – 310-456-2489, ext. 390 or email MBuilding@malibucity.org

— Public Works – 310-456-2489, ext. 391 or MPublicWorks@malibucity.org

— All other City business – 310-456-2489, ext. 392 or info@malibucity.org

Even though city hall is closed, the city planners continue to do everything they can to continue the plan check process. If you have corrections from the city, work on them from the safety of your home. If you need to submit to the city communicate and coordinate with your planner, as no one can enter city hall except for essential city staff. Most of all, we must follow the social distancing guidelines in place to keep our community and family safe.

Please keep updated on Covid-19, as well as, City guidelines and rules at www.malibucity.org/coronavirus.
